The Story Behind...

The story behind each my works of art...I will share a new post every week

Was worth all the nettles

I managed to get out for the whole day for the first time this year with the camera last weekend (19th May)
The weather was absolutely perfect - 19/20 degrees, no breeze, just spot on...

Having walked around Brandon Marsh and only captured flowers (again) I thought it was going to be another one of those days..which seemed to be happening far too often for my liking - going home with no photos I love to show for my efforts.

So then I headed around to the meadow area of the reserve, hoping I would at least see some Common Blues to get a new photo of them - so I was very happy to see a few fluttering around as soon I got there. They may be "common" but they really are striking...

Common Blue

Then, just as my uncle had advised, the common blues push the Brown Argus butterfies off the flowers - so I had a chance at capturing one I had been trying to capture for a few years but never managed to...
Needless to say I stuck with this tiny butterfly like glue, but as I had shorts on I defintely paid a price as my legs were stung to pieces with all the nettles it seems to like flying between. Lesson learned there for sure lol...but it was definitely worth it as I got a few nice photos...

Brown Argus

While lying on the floor photographing this butterfly my uncle Derve appeared from the other side of the meadow, curious as to who was on the floor - and told me he had seen another butterfly I had only captured once, and not a very good photo - the stunning green hairstreak,

He was very accomodating as well - I got within a foot of him laid out on the floor to get this which is definitely my fave shot of the day...sooooo chuffed with this.

Green Hairstreak

Then to round it all off I got the first dragonfly of the year too - the four spotted chaser...

So as you can see my first real trip out turned out to be my most fruitful in a long, loooong time - I hope you enjoy the pics as much as I did taking them

Thanks for reading...and if you would like to look at some of my work as prints for your home or office you can do so here....
