One of Tolkien's inspirations...
I have always been a big fan of Tolkien and his work, I read the hobbit countless times as a child and have read the lord of the rings books more times than I can remember - far far better than the films I may add.
So I knew I had to take a walk around an area that inspired Tolkien as a child - the woods surrounding Sarehole Mill in Birmingham.
He likened the Shire to the area surrounding this mill and the woods surrounding the mill shows you why they fed Tolkiens imagination.
It was during the autumn I went, and enjoyed a walk all around the surrounding woods and to Moseley bog - a stunning place to visit especially if you are a Tolkien fan.
Sadly when I went the Mill itself wasn't open but I am sure I will visit again at some point
Have you ever been to a place that inspired one of your favourite books or films?
